Thursday 9th August 2007 Location: Alrewas, Staffs Today: 11 miles, 7 locks. Total distance: 394 miles. Total locks: 352 Warm with sunny spells. Pulled the pins at around 08:00 and headed for Rugeley. Stopped at Rugeley and made two trips to the supermarket. Headed on to Alrewas where we will meet with Lindsay and Tom tomorrow. Very busy at some of the locks today. Queues of 4 – 5 boats in places. Just slowing down to moor at Alrewas and the boat got stuck in reverse gear. Stopped the engine and used the pole to get the boat over to the tow path side. Moored up and found that the gear selection cable had snapped. Thought we had a spare but when I dug it out, the spare cable that we have is the throttle cable which is about two feet longer than the gear selection cable. Phoned the nearest marina at Barton Turns, they have cables in stock so will get a lift over there tomorrow afternoon when Lindsay arrives. |
