Saturday 11th August 2007 Location: Branston, Staffs Today: 6 miles, 5 locks. Total distance: 400 miles. Total locks: 357 Warm with sunny spells. Lindsay and Tom arrived around 14:00 yesterday and after transferring clothes etc. from the car to the boat, Lindsay drove us all to Barton Turns marina to pick up a new control cable. While at the chandler, I bought two cables so that we have a spare, I also picked up a fan belt for the 12V alternator. I still need a fan belt for the 240V alternator as they did not have one in stock. Took Tom to the local park to play on the swings etc. It’s a nice park and it’s right beside the canal. Tom’s vocabulary has increased to the point where you can now have a conversation with him, very good for his age (34 months old). Fired up the BBQ in the evening and cooked a couple of chickens. The left over chicken is always handy for sandwiches and sweet and sour. Saturday: In the afternoon, I pulled the pins and went for a little cruise to entertain Tom and to charge batteries and take on water. We went as far as Branston Water Park where we moored up for the night. We moored at Branston a couple of months back when we met up with our friends Fran and Vic from Australia. Fired up thge BBQ in the evening and cooked some lovely pork chops and sausages from the butcher in Alrewas. Took Tom to the park then walked around the lake. Was after 22:00 when we got back to the boat. Just after we left the spot where we were moored at Alrewas, 3 idiots on mini motorbikes went flying down the tow path at about 40 miles an hour. We saw them a bit later at the other side of Alrewas on their way back to wherever they came from. People walking on the tow path, including Rhonda, had to jump out of their way.
