Sunday 30th September 2007 Location: Appleton, Oxfordshire, Thames Today: 12 miles, 6 locks. Total distance: 619 miles. Total locks: 446 Warm, mostly sunny. Poor t-mobile GPRS reception here Pulled the pins around 09:30 and headed on down through Isis lock and onto the Thames. We purchased a one month temporary license from the lock keeper at Godstow Lock, £117.50 !!! Headed up the Thames on our way to Lechlade. Passed through some lovely scenery all helped by the fact that the weather has been warm today and the sun has been shining on and off. One of the big problems with being on the river is finding suitable moorings. We tried a couple of places but there was not enough depth to get into the back. We finally found the spot we are at now which is in a lovely position. It seems strange to have lock keepers operating the locks for us. We arrived at one of the locks during the lock keepers lunch brake so we operated the locks ourselves, they are very easy to use and are all in excellent condition. Current mooring Someone lives on this - moored in the river beside the visitors moorings we were at And another - there are a few like this - note cat on plank Toll bridge at Swinford Thames west of Oxford - some lovely views |
