Ten Bob Note

Tuesday 7th August 2007

Location: Sandon, Staffs

Today: 9 miles, 10 locks. Total distance: 373 miles.  Total locks: 340

Warm with sunny spells.

Had a really heavy thunder storm last night. There was a good inch of water in the engine bilge this morning. The pram hood should stop the water getting in. The deck is supposed to be self draining but some water gets through.

Stopped off at the Wedgewood factory on the way past Barlaston, had a quick look around. Some lovely stuff but very expensive and of little use on a boat.

Stopped off for diesel at Stone, took on 116 litres at 53p per litre. This is the most we have paid for diesel so far although we passed one yard not too far back that was charging 60p per litre.

Also stopped at the chandler in Stone and bought a new new lump hammer as the two I had have both broken in the last week.

Passed nb Balmaha south of Stone. Vanessa shouted to us as we were leaving the chandler’s that they were moored up just below the bottom lock. Stopped for a quick chat and informed Mo that he and his web site are partly responsible for us now living on a boat. I used to read their web site at work last year and it helped me make up my mind that I really wanted to try life living on the canals. So Mo, it’s partly thanks to you an Vanessa that we are now continuous cruising – thank you – it’s a great life.

The boat from the book Narrow dog to Carcassonne - Phyllis May moored at Stone

Mo on nb Balmaha, think he has trapped his finger in a clothes peg

Mo again, happy at having freed his finger
