Ten Bob Note

Wednesday 21st November 2007

Location: Rugby, Warwickshire, Oxford Canal

Today: 10 miles, 3 locks. Total distance: 928 miles.  Total locks: 611

Grey cold day. Good t-mobile 3g reception here.

Needed to move to get water as the tank ran empty first thing this morning – not unexpectedly.

Also, we want to head up to Rugby to Tesco and to pick up the parts to put the 240V alternator back on the engine and also my repaired laptop back.

Arrived at the water point by the junction in Braunston to find a boat moored at the water point mooring but there was no sign of them taking on water. A lady appeared from the boat and I asked her if they had finished taking on water and would they be long before moving on so that I could get in to fill our water tank. She explained that her husband had gone off to leave their car back at Hillmorton and that he would be getting a bus back to Braunston but should not be too long. My first reaction was to get annoyed with them but quickly decided that it just wasn’t worth the effort. I asked if I could breast up beside their boat and she did not object. I tied up against them and filled the water tank – good job no other boats were passing as we were causing quite an obstruction as the water point is in an awkward spot on a bend. It’s funny how some people just don’t think of others, I would not dream of blocking a water point like they did.

Headed on up to Rugby and moored about a mile south of Tesco. Will carry on to Tesco tomorrow and do a large shop.

Only passed two other boats on the move today, I really do like this time of year on the canals, much better than the summer.

Current mooring

Broken bridge between Braunston and Hillmorton - was like this the last time we past back in September
