Wednesday 16th April 2008 Location: Melksham, Wiltshire, Kennet & Avon Canal Today: 11 miles, 1 locks. Total distance: 1320 miles. Total locks: 868 We walked to Bathampton with the dogs yesterday afternoon and had a quick look around. We decided that rather than rush to Bath and rush back to Devizes (we don’t do rush very well), we would turn around today and start heading back so that we can get to the marina with a bit of time to rest up before the journey to Cornwall. Also, we will not be forced to travel should we get a day or two of bad weather. We will save Bath for another day when we have more time to see it at leisure. We are now back at Melksham and will stay here till Friday to give us a chance for a final visit to my mother tomorrow before we head off to Devizes. We stopped of at Hilperton marina to top up with diesel. They are charging 75 pence per litre which is the cheapest we have seen in this area. It is amazing how the price of diesel varies from one supplier to the next. No luck in our search for fire wood, we have passed some but nothing that we could get at. Current Mooring
