Thursday 7th August 2008 Location: Stone, Staffordshire, Trent and Mersey Canal Today: 8 miles, 4 locks. Total distance: 1614 miles. Total locks: 1162 Up early this morning to try and beat the rush – we failed. We were just pulling the pins at 07:00 as two boats past us heading for the lock. We were third in line when we got to the lock 5 minutes later. Had a very pleasant surprise when we passed John and Cathy off nb Marmaduke. Stopped for a quick chat as we passed. Their story of the build of Marmaduke is enough to put anyone off ever going for a new build. We are so pleased that all turned out well for them in the end and that they are enjoying life on Marmaduke. Photo below. We moored up near the bottom of Star Lock in Stone and went for a walk around the town after lunch. A nice little town with just about everything you could want shopping wise. We were lucky to get a mooring spot when we arrived around 12:00, we pulled into a spot that was just being vacated by another boat as we arrived. It’s a very popular place for boaters. We will stay on here for the night then head off to look for somewhere a bit more peaceful for tomorrow night. Current Mooring
