Ten Bob Note

4th June 2007

Location: Shardlow.   N52:51:58 W1:21:20

Pulled the pins around 7:30 this morning and headed for the Trent and Mersey.

Stopped off at Sawley marina for gas, diesel and water. They had run out of gas so will have to pick a bottle up some other time. There are three 13kg bottles on the boat so there is no great rush. I always like to change a bottle soon after it runs empty mostly so that I don’t forget!!

Bought a light weight, long throw windlass at the chandlery to make life easier at the locks. The ones I inherited with the boat are heavy steel and short throw.

Took on 96 litres of diesel at 48 pence per liter, 20 litres of which went into the generator. All in all, not bad as the diesel stove was on 24/7 for 7 or 8 days since the last fill up.

Moored up for lunch and the night just passed Shardlow. Walked into Shardlow to pick up oil and a filter. Shardlow is full of canal history and has 4 or 5 pubs, a lot for such a small place.

Changed the engine oil, filter and gearbox oil, not my favourite job but at least that’s it done for another 200 hours.

Passed Ratcliffe power station this morning. Not a pleasant sight but I suppose they have got to build them somewhere.

Also passed a few nice barges, quite fancy one of them some day.

Not the best mooring in the world !!! Ratcliffe power station

Not the best mooring in the world !!!

A nice barge, fancy one some day!!

Plenty of room to pass on the Trent & Mersey at the Trent end

Trent and Mersewy
