Ten Bob Note

5th June 2007

Location: Willington.   N52:51:02 W1:34:17

Total distance: 103 miles.   Total locks: 76

Continued on west through some beautiful countryside on the Trent & Mersey.

Have now started to keep a log of distance travelled and locks used. To save having to look back through the guide books, I used Canal Route Plan to get the data for the journey so far. From now on, I will update on a daily basis using the guidebooks.

Came through some very heavy locks (Aston, Weston and Stenson) some of the gates were a real struggle to open and close. They are all fairly deep locks at around 11 feet so have big heavy gates.

Moored up at Willington for the night as there is a post office and small co-op here for papers and odds/ends.

Had a phone call from Fran and Vic, friends visiting from Australia. We plan to meet up somewhere in the next day or two. They are currently staying in Cornwall and will be heading north soon. The current plan is to meet up at Branston on the other side of Burton on Trent – but that could change.

Weather has been lovely again today – long may it continue.
