On the move again, business in Rugby completed.
Stopped off at Tesco in Rugby on the way past as they currently have 25% off wine at the moment – too good an offer to resist.
Passed Liam from the Canal World forum this morning, nice to almost have met you Liam, at least we managed a quick hello.
Had to give the engine a good dose of revs at one point this morning as we had grounded on something under the water. Shortly afterwards, the dreaded oil warning buzzer and lamp started going off at tick-over speeds. The oil pressure release valve had obviously activated and stuck open again. A quick call to A R Peachment and they advised removing the relief valve assembly and checking for worn/broken spring or any other damage. They also advised to check for any particles of debris that may be causing the valve to stick.
Also, we picked up something on the prop just north of Newbold, something sufficient to reduce drive and cause a lot of tiller judder.
We moored up north of Brinklow as we wanted to pop into the Brinklow post office.
Following a warm trek into Brinklow and back, it was on with the old clothes and into the engine bay. Removed the oil filter and it was not surprise to find the relief valve stuck open. A poke with a screwdriver released it but it did feel a bit ‘sticky’ as if there was ‘grit’ in the tube that the ball bearing runs in. I could not remove the valve assembly as my 24mm socket was not deep enough to reach the retaining nut so I went for plan ‘B’ which was to give the tube that the ball runs in a good flushing out with WD40. It does feel a lot better now. All is back together and we will see how it goes. If it fails again the next step is to buy a replacement assembley and a deep 24mm socket and replace the damn thing.
Also, went down the weed hatch and removed a length of rope and a load of fishing line.
Hopefully, tomorrow will be an event free day – fingers crossed.

Nice house

I had forgotten what it is like to be part of a convoy, the canals are very busy at the moment and it's not just because of the Braunston festival this week as many of the boats are heading north like us
