Some very heavy rain overnight was getting a bit worried at times.

Pulled the pins and headed for Evesham.

We shared a couple of locks with an American family on a hire boat. There was a bit of a scare at one of the locks when the lady on the holiday boat raised the lock gate paddle and the water started to flood into the front of their boat. Luckily it was spotted in time and she dropped the paddle quickly. It just goes to show how easily accidents can happen.

There are no deflectors on the paddles on the top gates and when opened, the water floods into the lock almost horizontally and with great force. Care needs to be taken with the Avon locks!!!

Moored up at Evesham and went for a wander around the town, some photos below.

Just before Evesham, there is a small ferry that operates across the river. The ferry is attached to both banks by ropes that are suspended about three feet above the water. You are supposed to warn the ferry man of your approach by sounding 3 blast on your horn – the big problem is that it is very difficult to see the ferry and the ropes and there are no signs on the approach.
