21st June 2007 - Longest day of the year

Location: Kinver, Staffs  N52:26:59 W2:13:10

Today: 6 miles, 7 locks. Total distance: 174 miles.   Total locks: 134

Left Swindon around 09:00 and headed south to Kinver. Arrived at Kinver at around 15:00, stopped for an hour on the way for lunch.

The weather has been a real mix today, hot in the sun then heavy showers, very unsettled.

On arrival at Kinver, we went to Wilson’s to see about a pram hood for the stern. They came out to the boat and measured up. The hood is now on order but there is a twelve week back log. They will now make up the frame work and come out to the boat to fit it. Once the framework is fitted, they will make templates for the covers than make the covers up back at base. Once the covers have been made, they come out to the boat again and fit them. With the weather we have been having over the past few weeks, it is not hard to see why their order books are full.

Not sure where the next destination is, will have to peruse the maps tonight. Have been hearing reports of the river Severn and Avon being flooded and closed to navigation at the moment so that may help us make up our minds as to where we head to next.

Will head into Kinver village tomorrow morning to do a little bit of shopping and to have a general look around the place.

Once again, we came through some lovely countryside on the way down to Kinver, lots of woodlands.
