22nd June 2007 Location: Wolverley, Worcs N52:24:28 W2:15:07 Today: 4 miles, 3 locks. Total distance: 178 miles. Total locks: 137 Lots of heavy rain this morning so did not get to the shops until lunch time. We have now decided that we are going to head down the Severn, not sure how far, it depends on if we like it or not. Phoned British Waterways as we had heard that the Severn is closed due to flooding. The girl at BW said that the Severn was unlikely to be open until next Wednesday. Had some excitement last night. Around 15 police offices turned up beside the canal as we were taking the dogs for their evening walk. It turned out that some lads had stolen a car and had dumped it close by and made a run for it. The police caught one of the lads but the rest disappeared into some woods. Not long after this, a police helicopter arrived and circled the area for about half an hour. Not sure if they caught any more of the lads though. Pulled the pins after lunch and headed south to Wolverley as the mooring we were at was among thick trees and a bit on the dark side. Will probably stay here for the weekend. 23rd June Walked into the village for the papers. Just got back on the boat when we were passed by a chap on another Goldsbrough boat that we were talking to back at Kinver yesterday. He is heading for the Saul festival and informed us that the Severn is open again. Looks like BW were a bit off with their estimate of Wednesday when I spoke to them yesterday??
